1. Give Always
Give away something tremendous and you’ll be sure to gain attention and media coverage. However, before you start planning your campaign, make sure that what you give away is relevant to you and your company’s products or services. For example, a fitness trainer might give away an entire year of free personal training. A software company might give away a free computer. Giveaways are a great way to get people excited and support positive feelings about your brand and your business. Leverage the power of press releases to get the word out about your giveaway.
2. Sneak Attack
Track and pay close attention to what your competition is doing. Plan your own campaign and launch it just before your competition launches theirs. It’s sneaky, but it’s a good way to ensure your competition doesn’t get as much publicity from their launch as they might otherwise have. Keep in mind that your competition may turn the tables and steal your thunder next time you have a new product or service to launch. Make sure that you leverage press releases and time the distribution well, so that your launch is well publicized
3. A Helping Hand
Identify a cause that reflects your company’s values and interests. Support that cause by sponsoring an event, donating time and/or money, or hosting an event to support the organization. For example, you might sponsor a local little league team or a national charity. You might host a women in technology conference or coordinate a corporate team to raise money in a fundraising event. By supporting a cause you build your brand’s reputation, you increase awareness for your company, and you do good. It’s a win-win situation. Make sure to issue a press release or two to document your philanthropic efforts.
4. Release New Research or Information
Research information and trends that are relevant to your industry. For example, a marketing company might research the effectiveness of email marketing on weekends. A fitness coach might research the top ten success habits for people who keep their New Year’s fitness resolutions. Research helps build your credibility and authority. It also gives you something important and informative to share. Issue a press release to announce the publication of your research and share your results with the media.
As you create your PR strategy for the upcoming year, consider which of these four tactics might work best for your niche and audience. Implement one tactic and measure your results.
