The Dallas Standard Sent Personnel to Leadership Conference
Dallas, TX, February 18, 2015 (Newswire.com) - Taylor and a group of The Dallas Standard’s leading team members attended the event. It was an opportunity for them to network with other professionals from the area. There were several presidents and vice-presidents from other marketing firms, who made excellent connections for the team. Furthermore, the firm’s executives had a chance to bond and get to know each other on a personal level.
“We really enjoyed this conference,” stated Taylor. “It was a great chance for networking, so we were sure to take advantage of it. I couldn’t be prouder of how well my team worked the floor. Furthermore, the challenge of it all seemed to help them really come together as a group.” The team also enjoyed a number of amenities during their stay, including a pool, spa, and gym.

The Dallas Standard’s Director Shares Secrets to Networking
According to Taylor, there are right and wrong ways to go about networking at a conference. She indicated that, while her team members are excellent networkers, many of them joined the firm with a lot of misconceptions.
“For example, a lot of people go to conferences looking to sell,” she said. “Networking is definitely part of the sales process, but it needs to start with relationship building. It should be more akin to being a farmer, sowing the seeds of success, than a hunter stalking his or her prey. This will result in more sustainable and lucrative results than simply going straight for the close.”
She mirrored this sentiment with her next tip – to listen and ask questions. She explained that everyone wants to be heard, and expert networkers know to make open-ended inquiries. This thoroughly engages people.
“I also recommend paying attention to more than just what people say,” she continued. “Keep in mind that we communicate a lot through body language. Pay attention to how others are standing, what their gestures are like, and what expressions they have. This will help you understand a whole lot more about what they are trying to convey.”
Using these simple tips, Taylor and her team were able to achieve a lot during their conference. She recommended that every professional work on his or her networking skills. “Business is largely about relationships,” she explained. “Make yourself an expert at starting and building them.”
