PDA Celebrates 13 Years of Packaging Industry Innovation and Stronger Communities at Annual Meeting

PDA Annual Meeting

When the Packaging Distributors of America got together last month in Arizona for its 13th annual meeting, it had much to celebrate: new suppliers and members, implementation of industry-leading innovations, and a year of charitable giving.

At the meeting, the contributions of various organizations and individuals were recognized including:

·       MEMBER OF THE YEAR: PACIFIC PACKAGING

·       SUPPLIER OF THE YEAR: TACH-IT

·       CHAMPION OF THE YEAR: JACK ANDERSON, FLEXPAK

·       2019 PRESIDENT’S AWARD: OLIVIA PIETERSEN, CROWNHILL

Packaging Distributors of America – or PDA as they are affectionately called – is a membership organization comprised of 62 owner-operated facilities across North American with combined annual revenue of nearly $2 billion and more than 25 million square feet of combined distribution center floor space. Their mission is to enable ingenuity in packaging by bringing together leaders in the field to share best practices and develop new business for its membership as well as distributors, suppliers and customers. It develops custom packaging solutions through a combination of engineering and technology expertise and environmentally-responsible practices aimed at delivering consistency in services, products, handling and the customer experience. PDA leaders say they also take great pride in helping turn inefficiencies and challenges in the packaging process into opportunities for members.

Community service and environmental stewardship are also central tenets of the organization.

“PDA was founded with the mindset that the industry succeeds by improving the businesses that make up the industry. Equally, the places where we live and work thrive when the organizations that are part of their fabric do,” explained PDA founder and president, George Strobel.

At the Arizona event, the fundraising focus was on an organization called Casa de los Ninos, which provides programs and services to help keep families together. Other charitable initiatives throughout the rest of the year focus on children’s health and nutrition, veterans and members of the military, education – and most especially, sustainability. And in an industry where 29.7 million tons of corrugated boxes are generated annually, PDA and its leadership team do not take their responsibility in that arena lightly.

“We view Nature as one of our most valuable partners. We ensure that the environmental aspects of how we design, engineer and manufacture products are safe and limit use of water, chemicals, gases, plants and land in the communities where we operate,” Strobel said. “We are poised for growth and success well into the future and we credit much of that to our holistic approach to business, the community and nature.”
