OmniShield Sponsors Scholarship Honoring National Hero

Pennsylvania Fallen Hero Honored

Tim Hollinger, a local authorized OmniShield Dealer was on hand to present Savannah Flanscha a scholarship check from the Fallen Heroes Scholarship Fund. This fund has been a Partner Program of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation in Emmitsburg, Maryland since July 2000. The fund has provided over a quarter of a million dollars to the children and spouses of fallen firefighters in this time.

Savannah qualified for the scholarship by applying through Emmitsburg. Her father gave his life in the line of duty in 2018 while serving as a firefighter for the York City Fire/Rescue Services in Pennsylvania. Like his father, a dedicated Iowa police officer, Ivan worked hard, loved helping others and lived life in the moment.

An important goal for Savannah was to become fluent in Spanish.  She accomplished that goal in her junior year of high school through the American Field Service Exchange Program, where she had the opportunity to study abroad in Barcelona. She then took a missionary trip to Guatemala where she helped translate communication between doctors and patients. This trip led her to realize she wanted to become a bilingual nurse. She wishes to work in a place with a higher Latino percentage so she can use her fluent Spanish to help more people. She is pursuing a degree to become a Nurse Practitioner.

Chris Roberts, President of GHS Companies and Brandsa and the Executive Director of the Fallen Heroes Scholarship Fund stated, "It's an honor to facilitate these funds on an annual basis and to be one of the oldest and most consistent supporters of such a noble cause. Savannah was an easy choice for the board. In an industry driven by low-cost manufacturing. OmniShield takes the extra steps to ensure U.S. engineered, high-quality products to ensure the best network of safety when families need our help the most. Savannah seemed to embody that with her desire to help others."
