NPower Announces Technology Relationship With Zoom to Prepare Future Workforce
NEW YORK, March 4, 2019 (Newswire.com) - NPower, the free technology training nonprofit that helps veterans and young adults from underserved communities break the cycle of poverty, announces a technology collaboration with Zoom Video Communications, Inc. to help supply the next generation of tech talent with its powerful video-first unified communications platform.
Integral to this collaboration, NPower will incorporate the Zoom platform across its foundational and advanced trainings, giving NPower’s staff, students and alumni the opportunity to stay current with the accelerating pace of change in technology.

As a part of this collaboration, amongst many other features of the Zoom communications product suite, NPower will be able to leverage the distance learning capabilities and keep their alumni engaged with the organization. NPower will also benefit from a Zoom Room in their new headquarters located in the DUMBO section of Brooklyn, NY, which will help alumni in advanced training programs use the Zoom video platform for study groups, tutoring and meeting/interviewing with distributed employers. “Video being the new voice” will enable NPower’s staff to have more immersive and engaging meetings, which will help the organization to grow its locations nationally and help many more of the country’s young adults and veterans.

Tech Labor Shortage Impacting Economy
The U.S. has a shortage of tech workers and together NPower and Zoom plan to help solve the problem by supplying the upcoming generation of workers with the video communications tools they need to succeed in the tech industry.
The Department of Labor projects there will be six million jobs that require tech skills by 2020 from a pool of only 3.2 million qualified tech workers.
Another report from the U.S. Equal Opportunity Employment Commission says the high-tech sector has become a powerful source for economic growth, with employment in computer science and engineering growing at twice the rate of the national average. However, a shortage of qualified tech talent risks slowing this economic engine of growth.
A Korn Ferry Institute study reported that while the U.S. is currently the global leader in technology, it could lose out on $162 billion worth of revenue annually unless it finds more high-tech workers.
More than 80 percent of NPower students are employed full-time or enrolled in continuing education within one year of graduation. By 2023, NPower plans to place more than 15,000 of its alumni in quality jobs or continuing education, which includes NPower’s expanding portfolio of advanced tech trainings.
