Metal Seal Butterfly Valves Are Now Part of XHVAL Butterfly Valve Lineup

XHVAL, a butterfly valve manufacturer, is now adding a metal seal valve type to its list of butterfly valves. This is the company’s response to the burgeoning number of industries looking for tight shut-off valves with unconventional materials.

The Increasing Threat of Fugitive Emissions

As the global population accelerates to unprecedented numbers, the more power generation companies seek alternative energy resources. Yet, these do not guarantee that the environment is safe from the onslaught of pollution.

In fact, there is increasing pressure to reduce fugitive emissions given off by power plants. Sixty percent of fugitive emissions in a typical industrial plant is generated by leaky valves, specifically from valve stems, bonnets, flanges and seats. These are the areas where leaks often occur.

To make matters worse, such industries operate with high temperature and pressure. Valves take the brunt of these conditions, hence, the leaks. Elastomers provide a bubble-tight seal under normal circumstances. However, these do not perform optimally when there are increased temperatures.

Metal seals can withstand high pressure and temperature. It is not as porous as elastomers. It has a longer service life compared to the conventional valve seals.

The Unique Characteristics of the Metal Seal Butterfly Valves

Under normal conditions, the elastomer seat of butterfly valves provides a good seal. This component provides support when the valve is closing. But this is not a great option when there are extreme pressure and temperature conditions.

The XHVAL metal seal butterfly valve utilizes a triple offset design to ensure the disc will last longer, and the seal is made of metal. This eliminates the need to replace seals often, as in the case of elastomers.

At this time, the XHVAL metal seal butterfly valve has undergone several tests. The company is proud to announce that it has been certified by API, ISO, NACE, and DIN.

It has passed the API test standards for valve packing for fugitive emissions. This clearly means each buyer of the XHVAL metal seal valve is guaranteed that the valve bought is safe.
