According to recent sales data, minivans and Jeep models continue to sell quite well. Get My Auto weighs in.

Some vehicle makes and models ebb and flow in their popularity, seizing market share for a time but then fading into obscurity. Others remain perennially beloved among consumers. Minivans and Jeeps both seem to exist in this second category, as evidenced by new sales figures. Orange County based car blog Get My Auto has issued a new statement to the press, weighing in on the sales data and also on the broader popularity of vans and Jeeps.

“When people buy vehicles, they are usually looking for something that will last them a good long while, and prove functional through a variety of circumstances,” comments Get My Auto in its new statement to the press. “Jeeps and minivans fit this description because most of them are durable and resilient over many miles, and they also offer generous accommodations both for passengers and for cargo. These are simply strong, multi-functional vehicles, which is what drivers will always be looking for.”

New sales data bears this out. The Truth About Cars reports that, in July, 44 percent of the new vehicles sold by Fiat Chrysler were Jeep models. Meanwhile, sales figures for smaller vehicles dropped considerably. Sales figures for minivans jumped, though they didn’t quite match the robust metrics for Jeep sales. Another noteworthy sales statistic: In the first seven months of 2016, 45 percent of the minivans sold in the United States were from the Fiat Chrysler family, including the Pacifica, the Town & Country, and the Grand Caravan.

“Though this data represents a single company, it is nevertheless illuminating,” Get My Auto explains. “Consumers are looking for vehicles that allow them to cart around larger families, or simply to pack more stuff into their storage space. As gas prices continue to decline, fuel efficiency seems like less of a factor than it was even a couple of years ago. In short, what consumers seem to be looking for are family vehicles.”
