Carpenters Local 158 Aids in Completing Final Stages of Ronald McDonald House Renovation
PHILADELPHIA, March 15, 2019 (Newswire.com) - Carpenters from Local 158 stepped up in January and February to help Ronald McDonald House by helping to move in and install new furniture as it assisted with the final touches of a four-year renovation process.
The Ronald McDonald House, 39th and Chestnut Streets, is in West Philadelphia. It provides housing to children and families while they have treatment at local hospitals for serious illnesses.
The renovation will double Ronald McDonald’s House capacity.
“We are going from 45 guest bedrooms, incrementally, to 127,” said Susan Campbell, CEO, Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House. “We're opening our second, third and fourth floors in our new tower. We have lots of families that we aren't able to accommodate and [this] is the beginning of a new chapter of our history where we can welcome many more families.”
“Carpenters local 158 were happy to provide support and expertise in moving in and then installing the furniture on this new addition,” said Carpenter Council representative Shawn Anderson.
“To help sick children and their families during a difficult time is a time for our carpenters to show their support by pitching it. They do so gladly because they consider themselves a part of the community.
“This expansion will enable us to grow from serving approximately 800 families each year to an estimated 1,900 families, and increasing our available room nights from 16,000 to more than 40,000 per year,” according to Ronald McDonald House.
