America’s Warrior Partnership has named former U.S. Senator Elizabeth Dole as the recipient of the fourth annual Leo K. Thorsness Leadership Award. The award recognizes outstanding service to veteran communities and is named after Col. Leo K. Thorsness, a Medal of Honor recipient and one of the most highly decorated American airmen of the Vietnam War.

“As a member of our Board of Directors, Leo was dedicated to our mission of empowering communities to not only empower veterans but also their families and caregivers,” said Jim Lorraine, president and CEO of America’s Warrior Partnership. “Senator Dole also embodies the spirit of this mission through her leadership of the Elizabeth Dole Foundation. We are honored for the opportunity to recognize her continued advocacy for the spouses, parents, children, family members and friends who care for our nation’s veterans and currently serving military members.”

Previous recipients of the award include former U.S. President George W. Bush, Home Depot co-founder and philanthropist Bernie Marcus and Fox News anchor Jon Scott. Senator Dole will receive this year’s award at the Fifth Annual Warrior Community Integration Symposium, which occurs from September 5 – 7, 2018, at the Omni Atlanta Hotel.

It is such a special honor to receive an award named for Col. Thorsness, who demonstrated such gallantry and courage on behalf of his fellow service members. He is a true model of selflessness and service.
