1. Data is News
Many technology organizations deal with data, and consumers and the media love data. For example, a new app getting a thousand downloads in the first five minutes is news. New updates that save time and/or money are news too. Combine the fact that data is news with the trend that headlines with numbers tend to perform well, and you have a winning strategy. When possible, focus your headlines and news on relevant and compelling data. Of course, don’t forget to also use a press release when you partner with other companies, launch new products or services, or host or participate in events.
2. Don’t Forget Your Personality
Tech press releases have a tendency to be a bit dry. While you don’t necessarily want to deviate from the formal structure and tone, you can add personality to your press release. Quotes are one opportunity to add personality to your release. Interview key players in the news, and focus on those who may have something a bit more interesting or creative to say. Images can also add personality to your press release, and they can be branded. Images can be humorous, poignant, or any other emotion that you’d like your readers to feel as they’re viewing your press release.
3. Call to Action
Don’t forget your call to action. Before you sit down to write and distribute a press release, determine what you want that release to accomplish. Are you building your brand, driving traffic, or trying to boost sales? Establish your goal and then write a call to action that supports your goal. For example, if you’re trying to increase engagement on social media then your call to action might invite others to visit you on your Facebook page – you might even offer an incentive like a discount or a sweepstakes entry when they “like” your page.
Press releases can be an effective and essential part of growing a technology business. They help establish many of the goals that a company may want to achieve like credibility, branding, and sales. Take a look at your existing sales and marketing strategy. How can you integrate press release marketing into your existing plan and channels? Leverage those opportunities and grow your business.
