Wisconsin Events Helps HALO, Inc. Brighten Children's Lives

Wisconsin Events' president and her team gave back by making Valentine's Day a little brighter for homeless children. She detailed their experience and identified ways for others to contribute to a local children's charity.

No one should feel left out on Valentine’s Day, and Angela, Wisconsin Events’ president, went out of her way to make sure that area children in need enjoyed the holiday. She explained, “Our team was proud to help HALO, Inc. in Racine make Valentine’s goody bags for homeless kids. We filled the bags with chocolates, markers, Play-Doh, and other fun stuff. HALO, Inc. is a wonderful organization, and we were so excited to see smiles on these kids’ faces.”

Philanthropy is a big part of the company’s culture, and Angela was honored to give back on behalf of the firm in her hometown. HALO, Inc., which stands for Homeless Assistance Leadership Organization, is dedicated to preventing chronic homelessness in Racine County and offers shelter and supportive services for people in need. The nonprofit also provides emergency food, clothing, and transitional housing to homeless families and children.

"My team would love to help HALO, Inc. more in the future,"

Angela, President

“My team would love to help HALO, Inc. more in the future,” added the president. “We had such a great time making Valentine’s Day better for children who are in tough situations, and we came back to the office more motivated than ever to live out our mission and uphold our values.”

Wisconsin Events’ President Highlights Volunteering Opportunities with HALO, Inc.

To help as many homeless people as possible, HALO, Inc. relies on the support of volunteers on a daily basis. Angela commented, “They have a need for just about any skill set you could imagine, so you can always find a good way to help advance their mission. Tutors are always in demand because the agency provides shelter to homeless children and their families, so that’s a good place to start.”

The organization also needs volunteers to help restore older rooms throughout the shelter facilities. Since opening in 2005, they have experienced some significant wear and tear. Volunteers can adopt an individual room and donate new furniture, paint or repair cracks in the walls, replace ceiling tiles, or wax the floors.

Preparing and serving meals are other ways volunteers can support HALO, Inc. Angela added, “This is a great opportunity for larger groups, and it’s an ideal way to bring a team closer together outside of the office setting. The organization served over 6,000 individual meals this past December alone, so there’s always a need for help in the kitchen.”
