Will C. Robertson is a Christian of over 50 years and a writer with a B.A. in English from CSULB. An early interest in aviation earned him certifications as a private pilot, a commercial hot air balloon pilot and an airframe and powerplant mechanic. Always intellectually and physically active, actual adventures, not just sight-seeing, in his early adulthood have given him first-hand knowledge of various cultures around the world that truly enriches his storytelling. He is now a retired weather forecaster and his latest adventure is the completion of “RYR: Rich Young Ruler.”
Will writes, “Consider this - RYR is the ONLY person in the Bible of which the following things can be said: He proclaimed to Jesus to have followed the last six of The Ten Commandments "from his youth", was then "looked upon with love" by Jesus, and then, to top it off, 'grieved', he walked away from Jesus's rare invitation. Was it really greed that caused him to walk away? Or was it something else? Did he really reject the offer by Jesus, or was something else in play?
Even if you are not a Christian there is a chance you have heard of the RYR simply because his is an interesting moral tale. Typically used as an object lesson in greed, he is usually treated like a puppet who is popped out of a box, discredited as greedy, and then popped back into the box—end of story. If you are a Christian (and been one for more than about ten minutes) you have almost certainly heard a sermon of similar ilk. However, the young ruler had a life before, during, and after his encounter with Jesus and, given his reception by Jesus, was apparently a stellar individual of rare integrity. For him to turn away from Jesus in 'grief' just because of greed seems a much too shallow conclusion. This book offers a correction to a miss-representation that has vilified an honorable man for centuries, if not millennia. One thing is for sure: Once you read this book, you will never think of the rich young ruler in the same way again."
Published by Covenant Books of Murrells Inlet, South Carolina, Will C. Robertson’s new book presents a novel perspective on the story of the rich young ruler by examining complexities heretofore unexplored by traditional thought and teachings.
