Volunteer Center of South Jersey Celebrates Family Volunteer Day

WE NEED YOU - Participants May Register for Projects or the Event Held At RCGC November 19th

VCSJ proudly announces our participation in a national day of service, which will take place on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016. Created to celebrate the positive impact we can all have in our neighborhoods, communities and throughout the world, Family Volunteer Day is powered by @generationOn and sponsored by The Walt Disney Company (@citizendisney).

There are two ways families can participate. Families can sign up for on-site projects at various non-profit agencies, who will be hosting group events at their location. These opportunities to serve can be found at http://bit.ly/vcsjvolunteer (Keyword: FVD).

Additionally,  families can register to join VCSJ’s “Be the Change- It Starts with Family” Event at Rowan College at Gloucester County in Sewell. The fun begins at 10:00 a.m. at the College Center Mezzanine at RCGC with activities to include: emergency preparedness, holiday card-making for the troops, and blanket-making for local families in need, as well as a non-profit fair and donation drive.  To learn more visit sjvolunteers.org.

Research suggests that volunteering as a family unit builds teamwork skills and helps children understand critical issues in their communities. Engaging children in volunteering at a young age is more likely to promote a lifelong ethic of service, and research indicates that children who volunteer are more likely to exhibit positive behaviors in other areas of their lives.

Traditionally, this event is held the Saturday before Thanksgiving so that families can kick off their holiday season in the spirit of giving and service. We hope you join us for this important tradition started 25 years ago—make it your new family tradition this year.

The Volunteer Center of South Jersey (VCSJ) was established as a private, independent 501c3 non-profit organization in 1996. VCSJ is a volunteer action center (VAC) in South Jersey, covering seven counties from Burlington to Cape May, whose mission is to change lives, empower families, and improve our community through volunteerism and the support of local non-profit organizations. The center offers best practices in civic engagement through education (workshops, publications, webinars, etc.) for volunteers (individual and groups) and organizations (business and non-profit).
