Teach for America Admits 22 Students From Howard University's Class of 2017

WASHINGTON, DC, May 10, 2017 (Newswire.com) -  Twenty-two Howard University seniors have accepted admittance into the prestigious Teach for America (TFA) program upon graduation. These soon-to-be graduates will be located in 13 cities across the nation including Chicago, Dallas, Las Vegas, New Orleans and New York.

Students accepted to Teach for America commit to two years of teaching in urban or rural communities in order to expand educational opportunities for young learners. Since TFA’s founding in 1989, the program has worked to eliminate inequality in education.

Having 22 students from one university is a noteworthy accomplishment. The program is highly selective, requiring stellar academic achievement and a demonstrated commitment to service. This year’s Howard University cohort has a collective 3.5 grade point average. TFA received approximately 49,000 applications from 1,900 colleges and universities nationwide.
