Still Time to Register for 12th Annual Sea Paddle NYC

Xtreme Event Set for Saturday, August 11

SEA PADDLE NYC

If you’re a stand-up paddler, you have just 7 weeks left to register for what is arguably one of the most exciting race events of the year! On Saturday, August 11, the Surfers’ Environmental Alliance (SEA) will host its twelfth annual SEA Paddle NYC, a grueling 25-mile event that attracts elite athletes and covers the dangerous waters circling Manhattan…all for charity.

“As one of the world’s top-ten, stand-up-paddle events, SEA Paddle NYC draws elite paddlers from all over the world to test their endurance and raise funds for charity,” says SEA Executive Director, Richard Lee.

According to Clif Bar Relay Team Captain Evelyn O’Doherty, “This is my favorite event of the year. It’s unlike anything else I’ve ever been asked to do. As a paddler, the opportunity to paddle around Manhattan is an extraordinary experience.

“The conditions this race throws at you are challenging, which makes it incredibly exciting.  You traverse Hell’s Gate, the Harlem River, the East River, all the way back down the Hudson. Each leg of the race throws different circumstances at you that you have to navigate. The aqua-terrain offers tremendous mental and physical challenges.”

Paddlers still have time to register to participate at http://seapaddlenyc.org.

Paddlers, or teams, are each required to raise a minimum of $1,000 with all proceeds benefiting several autism nonprofits and SEA. SEA works on environmental issues inherent to the surfing community and provides support to children with autism and their families.  Since 2007, SEA has raised almost $3.2 million, with 100 percent of pledges going directly to the charities.
