Stephen Shaya, MD, of J&B Medical and Akkad Holdings Speaks at Vatican Conference About the Next Generation of Philanthropy

The Fifth International Vatican Conference is part of a global health initiative to #UniteToPrevent.

Stephen Shaya, MD, Executive Servant Leader at J & B Medical and Managing Director at Akkad Holdings is speaking at the Fifth International Vatican Conference, a global health convening presented by the Pontifical Council for Culture and the Cura Foundation. Presented this year as a virtual event from May 6-8, the conference brings together leaders from the fields of medicine, religion, the arts, and more to #UniteToCure and #UniteToPrevent.

The focus of Dr. Shaya's panel, slated to air on Saturday, May 8 at 12:15 pm ET, is the next generation of philanthropy. He is joined in that discussion by Emma Bloomberg, Founder and CEO, Murmuration and Spencer P. Eccles, Co-Founder and Managing Partner, The Cynosure Group. This panel will be moderated by Moira Forbes, Executive Vice President, Forbes.

In his session, Dr. Shaya will talk about the difference between charity and philanthropy, the power of giving intentionally, and the change it can help bring about. "When one gives intentionally, it brings you closer to your faith and your purpose," Dr. Shaya says. His view aligns with one of his late father's favorite quotes from Mother Theresa: "It is not how much we give but how much love we put into giving."

"Providing an opportunity for experts from diverse disciplines to have a dialogue and compare perspectives in a dynamic way and in partnership will inspire hope for patients, families and communities around the world," said Robin Smith, M.D., M.B.A., founder and president of the Cura Foundation. "We appreciate Dr. Shaya's partnership and are pleased to have him speak at the Fifth International Vatican Conference."

The Fifth International Vatican Conference is a high-profile event that brings together leading journalists, scientists, physicians, patients, ethicists and leaders of faith, government and philanthropy to engage in conversations on how scientific advances coupled with cooperation can provide hope for the future with improved healthcare for all.
