"When I entered college I had no real career plan. I leaned toward medicine, but not for the best of reasons. After a year of good grades, but no passion for a medical career, I left school to reassess my goals. I returned to school and eventually decided to pursue a legal career, but had little idea of what type of law I would practice. Upon completing law school I took a position with a firm recommended by one of my law school professors, who told me, 'Steve, you are going to be a trial lawyer'. He said that I would get a chance to try cases in that firm. After a few months in that firm I was thinking that I would go to medical school. Then I tried my first jury trial, a $600 negligent engine repair dispute. I can still remember how my heart pounded when the jury returned its verdict. I had found my calling. Thirty jury trials later, in a period covering only five years, the feeling of anticipation and dread remained. I soon gravitated into a personal injury practice, and have thoroughly enjoyed its challenges ever since."
