St. Petersburg Injury Attorney Michael Babboni Comments on Laminate Flooring Formaldehyde Emissions

A recent discovery that Formaldehyde emissions from some laminate flooring manufacturers far exceeded safe levels draws comment from experienced injury attorney Michael Babboni.

A recent report by the National Center for Environmental Health at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, reveled that some laminate Floor products exceeded safe levels of formaldehyde emissions. The report states that  formaldehyde emissions were high enough to cause people without a medical condition such as asthma to have breathing problems as well as result in irritation of the eyes, nose and throat. Additionally the report states that the dangerous formaldehyde emissions coming from the laminate flooring elevated the risk of getting cancer from long-term exposure to the emissions.

The product in question was already the subject of a previous complaints which resulted in a lawsuit. The outcome of the law suite required Lumber Liquidators to pay the California Air Resources Board $2.5 million, which was deposited into the California Air Pollution Control Fund.

The new revelations that many homeowners could be suffering health problems from laminate flooring is disturbing. This product has already been the subject of lawsuits yet was continued to be sold as late a last year. It is my hope that Lumber Liquidators reaches out to customers who have purchased this dangerous product and alert them to the danger.

Originally sold in America by Lumber Liquidators, sales of the Chinese-manufactured laminate flooring were stopped in  2015, however many homeowners may be unaware of the danger.

St. Petersburg Florida personal injury attorney Michael J. Babboni had this to say about the report,”The new revelations that many homeowners could be suffering health problems from laminate flooring is disturbing. This product has already been the subject of lawsuits yet was continued to be sold as late a last year. It is my hope that Lumber Liquidators reaches out to customers who have purchased this dangerous product and alert them to the danger. Too often harmful substances are used in construction materials and go unnoticed allowing them to cause serious health problems in consumers that must then suffer from a decreased quality of life and high medical care bills”

A full copy of the report is available on the CDC website.
