SIMpalm Develops Free Texting App to Encourage Safer Driving
SIMpalm has built "I.M. Here" App on Android for its client, which sends text on behalf of the driver for trip status.
Washington, D.C., October 17, 2016 (Newswire.com) - SIMpalm, a leading mobile and web app developer, joined with a Pennsylvania startup to develop a free Android texting app that encourages safer driving.
The app, called “I.M. Here,” uses GPS technology to alert friends when you have left and arrived at a specific location without having to call or text while driving. It is available worldwide on Google Play.

Created by Smog Coast and developed by SIMpalm, the app uses Google Maps and Geolocation to track the user’s location while driving and update friends via an auto-generated text message when the user is five minutes away from the chosen destination. The driver will receive a sound notification that the text has been sent.
The user can enter just the street address of the destination and Google Maps locates it. Contacts can be imported with addresses so names can be entered to find locations.
App users do not need an additional text messaging plan. Only the driver needs to have the app downloaded. The friends or family members receiving notification of driver location do not need to have the app.
According to the Governor’s Highway Safety Association, 46 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands ban text messaging for all drivers. All but five have primary enforcement. Of the four states without an all-driver texting ban, two prohibit text messaging by novice drivers.
