SandStar Brings 'Grab & Go' Unmanned Store to EuroShop 2020

The AI company SandStar brought its unmanned store to EuroShop 2020, the world’s biggest retail trade fair in Düsseldorf Germany, collaborating with French retail innovator HMY Group.

The eyes of the retail world were on Düsseldorf with 2,300 exhibitors from 60 countries and 114,000 trade visitors. EuroShop is an indispensable meeting point for retail professionals, offering insight into future trends and presenting state-of-the-art innovations in retail technology.

SandStar presented the grab-and-go shopping experience built with computer vision and semantic action recognition technologies in HMY’s store. Customers just take three simple steps to complete shopping: scan QR code to open the door, select products and leave. The bill will be paid automatically on the phone. Hundreds of multiple SKUs from food and beverages to clothes and toiletries are displayed in the store. Even if a customer hides the products in their pockets, covers them with their hands or returns things they don’t want to a different shelf, the system can still identify the products correctly.

The store no longer uses traditional RFID and sensor technologies. This helps to dramatically reduce the cost of building the hardware systems of an AI-based unmanned store while increasing the possibility of fast expansion. Prior to the EuroShop, SandStar has worked with multiple clients around the world to build up unmanned store retail experience, HMY Group is one of the most important clients and partners in rolling out the retail innovation in Europe.

SandStar also unveiled its advanced technology which can track body skeleton. It helps identify customer in-store behaviours and generate insights for retailers. With a deeper understanding of customer profiles, loyalty program, traffic tracking by section and area, inventory monitoring and staff management, retailers can make data-driven decisions on product selection and display optimization, as well as customized promotion and advertising.
