Ronald (Ron) W. Lewis Has Been Recognized Among the Top in His Industry by the Expert Network©

The Expert Network celebrates its newest member, Attorney Ronald (Ron) W. Lewis

Ronald (Ron) W. Lewis, Attorney at Law, Lewis Law Firm, has joined The Expert Network, an invitation only service for distinguished professionals. Mr. Lewis has been chosen as a Distinguished Lawyer™ based on peer reviews and ratings, dozens of recognitions, and accomplishments achieved throughout his career.

Mr. Lewis outshines others in his field due to his extensive educational background, numerous awards and recognitions, and career longevity. He received his Juris Doctor from the University of Mississippi School of Law in 1978 where he received the American Jurisprudence Award in Environmental Law and was a student writer for the SeaGrant program. He also holds a Master's degree in French Language and Literature from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Arts from Dartmouth College that he earned with Senior Honors. He is AV® Preeminent™ Rated by Martindale-Hubbell® with regard to both legal ability and ethical standards.

"When I went into the practice of law in 1978, I considered lawyers as the last of the generalists, at least in smaller communities like Oxford. All that has changed now. Although I do an occasional will or divorce, my niche really is civil rights, employment discrimination and criminal defense. Most of my cases in those three areas are referrals by other lawyers. Many lawyers are much more specialized than that. Those who litigate oil spill cases under the Clean Water Act come to mind. Their work derives from a single section of the Act."

Ronald (Ron) W. Lewis, Attorney at Law, Lewis Law Firm

With nearly 40 years dedicated to law, Mr. Lewis brings a wealth of knowledge to his industry, and in particular to his areas of specialization, employment discrimination, criminal defense, and federal civil rights cases. Before becoming an attorney he worked as a teacher and a reporter for the alternative newspaper Publick Occurrences. When asked why he decided to pursue a career in law, Mr. Lewis said:

"While I was working as a reporter for Publick Occurrences, I stumbled onto a major national story: Aristotle Onassis was trying to build the world's largest supertanker port off the coast of New Hampshire. It was very 'hush, hush' until I broke that story in my weekly newspaper. Initially, the project was scuttled by a show of hands at a New Hampshire town meeting, but then it was approved the following day by the state legislature. That’s when I decided that I wanted to go to law school."

As a thought-leader in his industry, Mr. Lewis is passionate about sharing his experience with his colleagues in law. He has been a presenter at Continuing Legal Education seminars on police misconduct in Houston, Texas and New Orleans, Louisiana, as well as Cleveland and Pearl, Mississippi. He also has made presentations on employment discrimination at an annual conference of the Mississippi Bar in Biloxi, Mississippi and before attorneys in Tupelo, Mississippi. For several years Mr. Lewis was the training coordinator for attorneys representing indigent federal criminal defendants and was the representative for the Northern Judicial District of Mississippi to the National Conference of Criminal Justice Act attorneys.

This prominence in the field allows Mr. Lewis to keep his finger on the pulse of the legal industry. In particular, he has been paying attention to the increased specialization of lawyers in certain fields over time:

"When I went into the practice of law in 1978, I considered lawyers as the last of the generalists, at least in smaller communities like Oxford. All that has changed now. Although I do an occasional will or divorce, my niche really is civil rights, employment discrimination and criminal defense. Most of my cases in those three areas are referrals by other lawyers. Many lawyers are much more specialized than that. Those who litigate oil spill cases under the Clean Water Act come to mind. Their work derives from a single section of the Act."

Mr. Lewis is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association, including its mediation section, Lafayette County Bar Association, and a former member of the American Inns of Court. He is admitted to practice in: Mississippi; U.S. District Court, Northern District of Mississippi; U.S. District Court Southern District of Mississippi; U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit; U.S. Supreme Court; and the U.S. Claims Court.
