The New River is one of the oldest in country, and has the natural and cultural history to match! Some of the activities that the Gorge is known for include whitewater rafting, rock climbing, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, and much more! The New River splits into two major portions with The Upper New River as an ideal trip for the beginning or nervous rafter, and the Lower New River (commonly referred to as “The Grand Canyon of the East”) as a perfect choice for the seasoned whitewater veteran. All available routes offer incredible experiences that cannot be matched outside of the New River Gorge. Water temperatures average in the 70’s in August, so either route is a great way to beat the heat.Whitewater rafting consists of traversing a portion of river on an inflatable raft. Trips generally last about 5-7 hours, including a waterside BBQ for lunch. The ability to swim is not required but is helpful. Each guest is provided with all necessary safety equipment, a Coast Guard approved Type V Life Jacket, Paddle, and Helmet.
