Remanufacturing Industries Council Announces Approval of Its Remanufacturing Standard as an American National Standard
Rochester, NY, February 13, 2017 (Newswire.com) - The Remanufacturing Industries Council (RIC) is pleased to announce that the RIC001.1-2016: “Specifications for the Process of Remanufacturing” received final approval from the ANSI Board of Standards Review. It is now an approved American National Standard.
RIC, an American National Standards developer, formed a consensus body representing a cross-section of reman producers, users and other interested parties to develop the standard. RIC’s Trade & Policy Committee worked with the diverse members of the consensus body to develop this groundbreaking remanufacturing standard.
The new ANSI-approved American National Standard defines and provides a benchmark for the process of remanufacturing. It establishes the specifications that characterize the remanufacturing process and differentiate remanufacturing from other practices.

According to Don Chenevert, Jr., the Deputy General Counsel of SRC Holdings Corporation and Chair of RIC’s Trade & Policy Committee, “The new ANSI-approved American National Standard defines and provides a benchmark for the process of remanufacturing. It establishes the specifications that characterize the remanufacturing process and differentiate remanufacturing from other practices.”
The “Specifications for the Process of Remanufacturing” described in the RIC001.1-2016 standard will enable remanufacturers to improve and standardize their remanufacturing processes and help ensure that the reman products provided to customers by the remanufacturing industry are dependable and of a consistent high quality. The new standard will serve as a baseline for RIC to develop additional reman standards for specific remanufactured products and product groups.
In 2012, the U.S. International Trade Commission identified two major impediments to growth for the remanufacturing industry: 1) the lack of a commonly accepted definition of remanufacturing and 2) the absence of standards for the remanufacturing process. RIC001.1-2016 addresses those impediments and, it is hoped, will enable the Office of the United States Trade Representative to continue to expand market access for remanufactured products around the world.
