Podcast by International Business Consultant Jack Veale Prepares Families for an Unexpected Funeral

COVID-19 has taught business owners, their professional advisors, their caregivers, and their families that the unexpected can happen and that preparation is the key to lowering the stress and uncertainties of the funeral process.

In his new podcast episode, Jack Veale, author of The Sudden Death Checklist, helps business owners begin to think about putting together a plan regarding the events of their own funeral. He walks business leaders through the decisions they must make to give their professional advisors (funeral director, legal, financial, medical), caregivers, senior company employees, and family the tools they need during the live funeral timeframe.

Jack Veale explains, “Business owners often don’t want to contemplate their own demise. However, if they don’t put some thought and planning into their funeral, they leave the massive job of decision making and planning the funeral to their already grieving and distraught family, trustees, and executor. Working through a checklist well in advance alleviates the stressors of an already challenging time.”

Some of the “Live Funeral” considerations and decisions that are discussed in the podcast are:

·         Who to call first after the business owner has died?

·         What funeral home?

·         How to notify extended family, key business managers, advisors, and employees?

·         What clothes will be needed by the funeral home for the body?

·         What to do about the belongings? – jewelry, credit cards, identification, etc.

·         How to secure the home?

·         What about children and pets during this time?

·         What information does the Pastor, Priest, Rabbi, or Imam need?

Jack Veale tells the audience that, “Addressing these decisions well ahead of time is critical if a business owner’s family and company are going to avoid serious speedbumps and added heartbreak in an already challenging time.
