The Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology imaging center has served the Long Island community and other areas of New York for over 60 years. Born to a pharmacist in 1923, founder Dr. Jerome Zwanger attended the University of Pennsylvania, where he majored in chemistry. Prior to receiving his M.D. In 1947, he graduated from the Chicago Medical School. He was the assistant director of radiology at the Long Island College Hospital and sought to change the patient experience through setting up his own radiology practice out of his home. His partner, Dr. E.J. Pesiri, joined his mission in 1958.

Though both doctors have passed away in recent years, their practice thrives on their foundation of fostering a caring, compassionate setting for radiology patients. The Massapequa office still stands in the same place as Dr. Zwanger’s original home office. His daughter, Dr. Susan Zwanger-Mendelsohn, carries the legacy in her father’s stead. She reemphasized his legacy in a tribute article of her father’s life saying, “He was very, very proud of his family and incredibly supportive. He was always home for dinner even if he had to go back to the office after dinner.” Dr. Zwanger understood the power of demonstrating a caring attitude when creating a comforting, healing environment at home or at work.

Today, Zwanger-Pesiri Radiology hosts over 60 board-certified radiologists with multiple subspecialties. The extensive facilities offer twenty-five 3T MRI units, nine 1.5T MRI units, twenty-eight 3D Mammography units, three 1.2T Open-Sided MRI machines, five PET/CT scanners, as well as the first clinical outpatient MRI/PET system in the United States.
