St. John’s Episcopal School is located in Orange County, California in the beautiful, quaint town of Rancho Santa Margarita. The school has close proximity to vast natural environments to include national forests and the scenic Santa Ana Mountains.

St. John’s Episcopal is a unique day school for students as young as 8 weeks through 8th grade. In 1988, the community’s need for a quality, private elementary school education inspired the founder, Reverend Canon Ernest D. Sillers, to set up a facility with an initial enrollment roster of 250 children. Five years later, generous community benefactors assisted in the construction of the permanent campus students enjoy today.

The school prides itself on its cultural diversity and high standards of education. As an independent school, St. John’s is not subject to outside mandates, resulting in the establishment of their unique teaching methods which are custom-made to meet the students’ needs. This academic freedom gave birth to an integrated program for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). Students enrolled in the STEAM program experience the mechanics of Vex Robotics, learn the precision art of laser cutters, experiment with 3D printers, perform instrumental music, and discover a range of foreign language options to include Mandarin Chinese.

The STEAM program at St. John’s has been so successful, a brand new building for devoted study was constructed just last year. The Head of School, Dr. Michael Pratt, described the endeavor as providing space and tools for teachers and students to engage in more project-based learning which enables St. John’s to be a cut above other schools engaging in STEAM education.

St. John’s Episcopal also focuses on character development as an integral component of education. The Character Counts Program layered within the curriculum teaches problem-solving, critical thinking, and moral decision-making. Students are encouraged to conduct their spiritual and social lives with acceptance and inclusion for others.
