Paterson City Mayor Jeffery Jones Plans to Create a PPP Center

Online, May 4, 2014 (Newswire.com) - In a Webinar event and a "live" TV program last April 4, 2014, dubbed as "Paterson City: Investors Forum" Part 1 - Infrastructure Investments held at the City's Channel 77, hosted by an international trade and investment association, the Council for Trade and Investment Promotion (CTIP), an NJ non-profit organization, and in cooperation with the City of Paterson, Mayor Jones disclosed his plan of creating a PPP Center for the City.

In his keynote address during the event Mayor Jones said that, it is about time that we should invest in infrastructure. The private sector has an important role in the development of the needed government infrastructure facilities in partnership with the government. It is in this partnership that business owners will benefit the most.

In other words, Mayor Jones said, undertaking an infrastructure development Project is a joint undertaking between the government and the private sector. It is undertaking an infrastructure Project under the spirit of true "partnership".

Mayor Jones further said Cities and municipalities' should minimize heavy reliance on Federal and State Funds to finance our crumbling infrastructure facilities, such as roads and bridges, waterworks, our hydro power plants and many others. We should start asking the private sector to join us in partnership to build these facilities, at a pre-determined cost and reasonable rate of return on their investments.

Moreover, Mayor Jones has emphasized the importance of creating a Project Development and Monitoring Facility (PDMF) within the Center, to provide support and monitor the on-going construction and operation of a PPP project.

CTIP is supporting the advocacies of Mayor Jones. In a statement from its Charter President, Fernando M. Sopot, he said that, "the plan by Mayor Jones to create a PPP Center and a PDMF is a laudable move. It is an important step towards an efficient and transparent way of making sure that the implementation of PPP projects will be a success".

Mr. Sopot likewise said that by developing partnerships with private-sector entities, governments can maintain quality services despite budget limitations.
