September 27, 2011 (Newswire.com) - Parrish FL community joined the construction team in building a new home for the retired Army Staff Sergeant Juan Roldan in Parrish Florida. On August 20, 2011, Homes for our Troops led the launching of the construction of a specially-adapted home to honor the heroism of the above named retired sergeant who suffered from multiple injuries (traumatic brain Injury, a spinal cord injury and amputation of both legs) from his vehicles explosion in Sadar City, Iraq, in December 2006.
The three-day event started with a ceremony and was followed by the volunteers from Parrish FL and other neighboring communities working together to put up the home's first wall. Significant accomplishments were ready by early afternoon. Volunteers were able to finish all the framing, assembling of the four sides of the wall and installation of trusses. The event, which lasted for three days aimed to frame the side and roof the house, and install windows and doors. The completion of the interior and finishing will be done in the following months.
Homes for Our Troops' specially-adapted home for Sgt. Roldan featured large door openings and wide hallways, hard surfaced floors, roll-under work areas in the kitchen, a master bath with large roll-in shower and more. It was designed that way to allow Roldan and his family to feel free to move and live more independently.
The home was made to honor Roldan and his family and this goes to them for free. It was made possible by the abundant support that came from numerous generous people - the general contractor Badger Construction, Taylor Morrison, professional trades people, countless volunteers, thousands of donations from many individuals and the community of Parrish.
Roldan's words affirmed everyone's giving and efforts. In his gratefulness he uttered heart-warming words such as "It means the world. They are not just building a future for me. This will allow me to raise my daughter in a better environment."
