Our Mission From the Beginning Was Crystal Clear: To Be the Most Inclusive Startup Community in the Country

1 Million Cups Orlando Celebrates the Entrepreneur and Startup Community, Growth and Future Plans

1 Million Cups

After a year of rapid growth and success, 1 Million Cups Orlando will celebrate the entrepreneurial and startup communities during a special edition of 1 Million Cups on Aug. 1, 2018, 8:30 a.m., in the Bush Auditorium on the campus of Rollins College supported by its local entrepreneur community, including local e EdTech startup LeapWithAlice.io.

Since taking over as co-organizers of the Orlando, Florida, Chapter of 1 Million Cups, Julianna Ormond, CEO of The Hint Group, and Robert “RC” Williams, Co-Founder of The Hint Group have helped to build a significant audience for what is the only weekly entrepreneur meetup in the Orlando area. In March, Ormond and Williams shared their desire to stay on for another year as co-organizers, and the community agreed.

While we can't go into details, significant relationships have formed during our time as co-organizers, sometimes resulting in investments.

"When we were launching The Hint Group, we struggled to find the resources we needed," said Ormond.

"It was extremely frustrating. When the opportunity to take over hosting 1 Million Cups came, we knew that we could solve this problem for many entrepreneurs. We are excited to celebrate our community champions, share our journey and our plans for year two."

An average of 70 people per week come to Rollins College each Wednesday morning from 8:30 to 10 a.m. to hear entrepreneurs share their business or idea for six minutes and receive 20 minutes of feedback from the audience.

"The Kauffman Foundation (the parent organization of 1 Million Cups) is dedicated to small business and entrepreneurship," said Williams.

"We have a very engaged audience that provides excellent feedback, relationships and connections to those who need them."

Lovingly referred to as the "Guppy Tank," Ormond and Williams say that the primary focus of 1 Million Cups is education and connection as opposed to investment.

"That's the mission of The Kauffman Foundation," said Williams.

But magic does happen.

"While we can't go into details, significant relationships have formed during our time as co-organizers, sometimes resulting in investments," said Ormond.

1 Million Cups takes place each Wednesday morning at Rollins College in Winter Park. Networking begins at 8:30 a.m., with presentations beginning at 9 a.m. For more information or to apply to present, visit 1MillionCups.com/Orlando or email rc@thehintgroup.com.
