New Ericsson Chief IP Officer Christina Petersson Set to Outline Vision as She Joins the Speaking Faculty for IPBC Global 2019
LONDON, May 15, 2019 (Newswire.com) - Christina Petersson, who became Chief IP Officer at Ericsson last month, is the latest big-name speaker to confirm for IAM's IPBC Global 2019. Her appearance at IPBC Global will be one of the first opportunities for patent owners and their advisers to hear her speak directly about Ericsson’s priorities and views on IP in the 5G era; licensing across new industries; and how Ericsson fits into the developing landscape
A 20-year veteran at Ericsson, Petersson began her career there as a trademark attorney having graduated with a master’s in law from Sweden’s Uppsala University. That gives her a very different foundational background to her two predecessors, Kasim Alfalahi and Gustav Brismark, both of who were non-lawyers.
However, Petersson has made clear that she did not see that as an issue. Speaking exclusively to IAM, she said “I have long and deep experience of working in the IPR and licensing team. I started off as the only person in legal supporting it back in 2003, so I have been a part of the group for 17 years,”.
Petersson explained that her initial priority is giving herself a couple of months to get acquainted with all aspects of the job - one of the biggest there is in IP. Like Brismark, she will be responsible to an internal Ericsson leadership team that reports direct to the CEO and she will oversee an operation that in some years has generated over $1 billion in royalties for the company. “Of course, IPR is important to the success of Ericsson. The chance to get a fair return on the investments we have made in R&D is crucial for us,” she said.
Petersson joins a line-up of other big names at IPBC Global, including: Dolby Laboratories’ EVP, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary, Andy Sherman; Director, IP at Boston Scientific, Denise Lane; Uber’s global head of intellectual property John Mulgrew; Harvard University’s Director of IP, Karen Sinclair and many more.
IPBC Global will be held in Boston from June 16 to 18. Hosted by IAM, the event is shaping up to be the strongest and most prestigious speaking faculty that has been assembled since the event began in 2008. More information on attending is available at www.IPBCGlobal.com.
