Learn About Battelle's Winning Patent Licensing Tips
LONDON, August 29, 2019 (Newswire.com) - Recently, IAM caught up with Vicki Barbur, Senior Director of IP and Technology Commercialization at Battelle, ahead of her appearance at this year’s Patent Licensing event in San Francisco (October 3). Battelle is a not-for-profit, R&D institution which has been in existence for 90 years.
In an exclusive interview, Vicki talks about what opportunities and challenges she sees in the landscape for both licensors and licensees; how the landscape is changing; and quick tips for creating win-win licensing deals.
Vicki explains “companies are no longer focusing entirely on their own internal innovative initiatives; they are now routinely practicing ‘open innovation’ utilizing an ‘inside out/outside in’ perspective in order to seek out the best and most advanced offerings.”
In order to achieve success in patent deal-making, Vicki believes that licensors and licensees should “enter deals with your eyes wide open, remove bias, and focus on using the support of multidisciplinary and diverse teams. You must also be willing to try new approaches and look at the overall value to the company (and society), not just the bottom line.”

Vicki will be speaking at IAM’s 5th annual Patent Licensing event taking place in San Francisco on October 3 alongside other licensing masters from the likes of Nokia, Dolby, Facebook, TiVo, Google, Stanford, Caltech, GE, and many more.
