The Expert Network celebrates its newest member, Attorney Micky Yamatani

Micky Yamatani, Attorney at Law, has joined The Expert Network, an invitation only service for distinguished professionals. Yamatani has been chosen as a Distinguished Lawyer™ based on peer reviews and ratings, dozens of recognitions, and accomplishments achieved throughout her career.

Yamatani outshines others in her field due to her extensive educational background, numerous awards and recognitions, and career longevity. She earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law in 1990. She also holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan. She is a member of both the Hawaii and New York State Bar Associations.

"Because the economy has tanked many women haven't been able to find a good job right after a divorce, especially here in Hawaii, because we have such limited resources. So in turn they are demanding higher and longer alimony payments. When the economy is bad you have no choice but to hold on to fight. I think many more cases are actually going to trial than before because of this."

Micky Yamatani, Attorney at Law

With over 20 years dedicated to law, Yamatani brings a wealth of knowledge to her industry, particularly to her area of specialization, family law. When asked why she decided to pursue this specialization in law, Yamatani said:

"I speak two languages and in Hawaii we have a lot of custody issues with mothers from Japan taking their kids outside of the country."

In 1996, Yamatani opened her own broad base practice to provide legal counsel and representation to all people in her community. Regarded as one of the best in Hawaii, her practice maintains an emphasis on family law issues, especially divorce and child custody including international custody issues. Previously, she served as the Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for the City and County of Honolulu and the County of Maui. She has also worked for the Yausda Fire and Marine Insurance Company in Tokyo, Japan.

As a thought-leader in her industry, Yamatani pays close attention to prevailing trends in family law. In particular, she notes that a sluggish economy has resulted in a demand for higher alimony requests in divorce cases, which has lead to more cases going to trial. She noted:

"Because the economy has tanked many women haven’t been able to find a good job right after a divorce, especially here in Hawaii, because we have such limited resources. So in turn they are demanding higher and longer alimony payments. When the economy is bad you have no choice but to hold on to fight. I think many more cases are actually going to trial than before because of this."
