Our family court systems, no matter how hard they try to meet the needs of growing dockets, simply do not have the resources to address the needs of the parties and their families. In a peaceful setting where everyone is respected and conversations flow among all of the participants—including the lawyers, the parties, divorce coaches and certified divorce financial planners—the sky is the limit to the creativity, the compassion, and the positive outcomes that happen in collaborative law.

With over 25 years of experience dedicated to law, Ms. Blessing brings a wealth of knowledge to her industry, and, in particular, to her areas of specialization, family law and Alternative Dispute Resolution. When asked why she decided to pursue a career in law, Ms. Blessing said:

"My advocacy for children started with becoming a bench warrant investigator for child support and later serving as a conference officer adjudicating child support for eight years. I got tired of watching attorneys add fuel to the fire, so I decided to go to law school to offer people a better process."

As a thought-leader in the field of Alternative Dispute Resolution, Ms. Blessing has closely followed its developments over the years and notes the slow onboarding of collaborative law in Pennsylvania:

"Collaborative law is a wonderful concept that uses representing attorneys and teams of professionals as needed to resolve disputes outside of court by creatively working together with the divorcing parties to meet their needs and the needs of their families. Unfortunately, Pennsylvania is one of the last states to adopt a Uniform Collaborative Law Act, which has recently passed the House of Representatives and is now going forward in the Senate. There has been a lot of resistance to this concept by litigation oriented attorneys who may fear that such competition in the legal field may be detrimental to their ability to receive their lucrative incomes through their fee collections.

Our family court systems, no matter how hard they try to meet the needs of growing dockets, simply do not have the resources to address the needs of the parties and their families. In a peaceful setting where everyone is respected and conversations flow among all of the participants—including the lawyers, the parties, divorce coaches and certified divorce financial planners—the sky is the limit to the creativity, the compassion, and the positive outcomes that happen in collaborative law."
