Betina Hunt, CEO of BU Beauty & Accessories, has been successfully leading her Chapter for three years

The International Association of Women (IAW) recognizes the contributions of Betina Hunt as Greater Memphis Chapter President. She is acknowledged as a leader in this role. The International Association of Women (IAW) is a global in-person and online networking platform with more than 100 local chapters, International Chapters in several cities in China and 1000+ in person and virtual events.

I’m pleased to acknowledge Betina’s outstanding leadership abilities,” said IPDN President and IAW Spokesperson Star Jones. “Her knowledge and experience are valuable assets to her Chapter, its members and the local community.”

For three years, Betina Hunt has been bringing together professional women as President of IAW’s Greater Memphis Chapter. “Taking on the role of Greater Memphis Chapter President was the next step in challenging me to become not only a better person but being there for the women I serve,” she said. “Working from behind the scenes has been my comfort zone. Being Chapter President has pushed me from that zone where I'm now able to embrace my leadership position. So, in short, it has made me more comfortable with me.”

Ms. Hunt is especially proud of the strong relationships and friendships that have developed between members under her leadership. “I am also proud of the many women who have overcome their fear of speaking in front of people by speaking up at meetings,” she added. “Seeing members collaborate in business after meeting at one of our Chapter events brings me so much joy.”

The Greater Memphis Chapter meets each month for in-person networking events where like-minded professional women come together for monthly topic discussions and professional development. The Chapter has expanded to Arkansas and Mississippi, and in the coming months, the Chapter will start to rotate monthly networking and professional development events at each state so all members may attend more easily. All Chapter events are posted on Eventbrite, IAW Greater Memphis Chapter Facebook Page, IAWMemphis Instagram page and, of course, the IAW Group Wall.

“We are hosting our Annual Pumps & Pearls Holiday Luncheon to benefit a local nonprofit so mark your calendar for Saturday, December 21, 2019!” Ms. Hunt said. “The Leadership chose Heal the Hood Foundation of Memphis, a local organization that works with youth and young adults using the arts and media science, as this year's recipient. We’ll have a special celebrity guest speaker, and vendor and sponsorship opportunities are available.”

One of her goals for the IAW Greater Memphis Chapter is to increase member engagement. “I also hope to build leadership teams in the areas of professional development and entrepreneurship while empowering and inspiring each women to dream, rise and lead wherever they are,” she added.

Ms. Hunt has more than 20 years of experience in the accounting/finance field, helping new and existing business owners develop and/or maintain their accounting departments. She is also a successful entrepreneur. “BU Beauty & Accessories has been in existence for almost three years now,” she said. “My key role is CEO but I'm also the creative drive behind the BU Be Uncommon clothing; we are also a Brand Ambassador for Lipsynk Cosmetics, which is the beauty lipsticks and lip glosses we offer.”

Crediting her children Andrew and Amya with inspiring her to never give up, Ms. Hunt’s ultimate goal for her online business is to open a department store where jobs and training are provided locally and even nationally.

“Even when some days you want to give up, it’s imperative your children see success comes with hard work, determination and consistency,” she added. “The Bible says we are to leave an inheritance for our children's children, and I plan to do just that.”
