International Association of Women Recognizes Fern Tracey as a 2019-2020 Influencer

Fern Tracey, Owner of Curis Consulting, RPh, joins networking organization

The International Association of Women (IAW) recognizes Fern Tracey as a 2019-2020 Influencer. She is acknowledged as a leader in healthcare consulting. The International Association of Women (IAW) is a global in-person and online networking platform with nearly one million members, 1000+ in person and virtual events, over 100 Local US-based Chapters and International Chapters in several cities in China.

“I’m pleased to welcome Fern into this exceptional group of professional women,” said IPDN President and IAW Spokesperson Star Jones. “Her knowledge and experience in her industry are valuable assets to her company and community.”

As a Pharmacist for 40 years, Fern Tracey has always worked closely with her patients, providing them with the information they needed when it came to their prescriptions and helping them to better understand how to take their medications safely and effectively. She founded Curis Consulting, RPh in response to the need for medication management with Medicare patients.

“As our population ages, the need for this kind of service increases,” Ms. Tracey said. “A few years ago, I started looking for a way to solely be a consultant. Traditional pharmacies placed the emphasis on filling prescriptions because that’s what insurance companies paid for. This changed when Medicare began authorizing reimbursement for patient consultation as part of their medical care. Pharmacists could work with doctors’ offices to monitor medication use and fulfill Medicare requirements.”

Today, Ms. Tracey uses her skills as a Pharmacist, including drug knowledge, problem-solving and communication, in her work as a full-time Consultant. In her role, she contacts patients on a monthly basis and conducts a 30-minute phone conversation where she reviews their prescriptions, addresses any issues or concerns they may have and ensures they are correctly taking their medications. “If they have a caregiver, I prefer to be able to talk with both of them,” she added. “I also have to follow up any time a patient is discharged from emergency or urgent care or a hospital.”

Although it can be challenging to promote her services to doctors who are unfamiliar with having a pharmacist on staff, Ms. Tracey is passionate about helping her patients. “The most rewarding thing about my work as a Consultant is when I am able to help a patient learn something new about their medication and understand why it was prescribed,” she said. “In the future, I plan to work with enough offices to keep me busy. Eventually, I’d like to bring on other pharmacists who share my passion for patient care.”
