Lisa Marie Taylor knows the importance of early detection when it comes to diagnosing breast cancer, especially for someone like her, whose family has been touched by the disease. “My grandmother on my mother’s side died at an early age from breast cancer,” she said. Yet, she worried about the radiation risk from a mammography, and the fact that she was breastfeeding made her look to other options. “I wanted some type of screening but something that demonstrated changes in my health before a tumor was there,” she said.

Ms. Taylor chose thermography, which is  FDA cleared as an adjunct tool to mammography. Thermography [digital Infrared thermal imaging (DITI)] is a test of physiology and detects subtle changes that could be markers to future breast health issues. Last June, she founded FIT2B Breast & Body Thermography, to help other women have access to this type of screening. In addition to detecting breast cancer and other breast disorders, it is also useful in sports medicine where it is often used as a diagnostic tool. "DITI is radiation free, painless and noninvasive," said Ms. Taylor. "No test is 100% and until we have that, a combination of screenings is imperative."

“My mission is to educate the public as well as physicians about adding thermography to every women’s breast health screening,” said Ms. Taylor. “My future goal is to be a partner with all breast cancer patient support groups.” She is working tirelessly to be a pioneer when it comes to establishing a platform for educating women about thermography.
