Andrea Walker-Leidy, President of Walker Publicity Consulting
Andrea Walker-Leidy began her professional career working as an Editor for a local newspaper. It was her interactions with the small to mid-sized businesses and nonprofits she wrote about that inspired her to strike out on her own. “I saw a need for PR and social media assistance for organizations who were unable to retain large firms,” she said. “I was able to use my media and writing skills, and relationships, and I was willing to evolve my offerings as quickly as social media and digital marketing did. I wanted to keep helping people share their stories and passions.”
In 2007, Ms. Walker-Leidy launched Walker Publicity Consulting, where she creates innovative publicity, marketing and social media campaigns for nonprofits and businesses. “We do everything from developing a marketing plan to executing daily media and social media goals,” she added. “Additionally, I provide development and marketing integration for nonprofit clients to assist with fundraising and outreach.”
From linking together clients with local reporters and news outlets to helping two companies co-brand and expand their client base, Ms. Walker-Leidy uses her skills to connect individuals and businesses. “I work to connect,” she said. “Marketing and publicity has, in the past, been something that isn't tangible. That is no longer the case with social media and my skill is creating goals and then seeing tangible results for those goals with my clients.”
As she juggles her consulting business, being a mom and her part-time job as Development Director of Meadow Brook Theatre, Ms. Walker-Leidy is busy but committed to making it all work…and taking on new goals. “I hope to be elected and retained on the Board of Education for Rochester Community Schools,” she said. “That will give me the ability to use my skills and work in my community to help better our schools and build strong leaders for our future. Walker Publicity continues to grow and I hope to see it expand to offering more jobs to those looking to work with nonprofit and small business publicity.”
