"There are increasing problems in the financial and legal communities; we are regularly dealing with housing and long-term care issues, elder abuse and financial exploitation. Unfortunately, our society does not respect and honor its seniors; instead, they are often abused and/or taken advantage of financially, even by members of their own families."

With 16 years dedicated to law, Ms. Mock brings a wealth of knowledge to her industry, and in particular to her areas of specialization, estate planning and elder law. When asked why she decided to pursue a career in law, Ms. Mock said:

"I have always wanted to practice law. I like to help people and what I do is relatively non-adversarial. I get to feel good about helping people. They appreciate me and I get a lot of personal satisfaction from it."

In May of 2010, Ms. Mock formed her own law practice. Based in Williamsburg, the firm is devoted to providing Virginia Peninsula clients with the best in estate and trust planning and administration. She continues to provide the same breadth and quality of services to clients throughout Hampton Roads, including the Middle Peninsula and the Northern Neck.

As a thought-leader in her industry, Ms. Mock is a frequent speaker on topics relating to her areas of practice and is a faculty member for her law school, where she has served for over twelve years. Her prominence in the field allows her to keep a close eye on prevailing trends in estate planning and elder law. In particular, she is paying attention to changes in elder law that are the result of an aging baby boomer population. She noted:

"It is an ever growing field. We have had mammoth changes in estate tax laws in the fifteen years that I have been practicing. And as far as elder law, it was almost a non-existent field fifteen years ago, but has now morphed into its own special area of law. With more baby boomers reaching their golden years we have a larger group of people needing services. As a result, we need to have more people who are trained to address the unique problems that seniors face. There are increasing problems in the financial and legal communities; we are regularly dealing with housing and long-term care issues, elder abuse and financial exploitation. Unfortunately, our society does not respect and honor its seniors; instead, they are often abused and/or taken advantage of financially, even by members of their own families. These have become enormous issues in our society of late, and unfortunately there is no end in sight. The best we can do until the laws can catch up with this overwhelming problem is to be observant and take action immediately when we believe someone is being mistreated."

Ms. Mock is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court Eastern District of Virginia, the U.S. Court of Appeals 4th Circuit, and the Virginia Supreme Court. She is a member of the Peninsula Estate Planning Council, National Association of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA), Williamsburg Bar Association, Virginia Bar Association, Virginia State Bar (Trust & Estates Section), and the Life Care Planning Law Firms Association.
