Gaia Announces Launch of Hand-Painted Hurricane Candle Holder - Batch #137

Never one to follow the mainstream, artisan home-goods firm Gaia has added a hand-painted candle holder to its already impressive lineup of rustic, handcrafted pieces.

The candle holder, whose official name is Batch #137 Hand Painted Hurricane Candle, is a piece which diverges from its larger, more formidable Gaia counterparts. Recent releases from the company have included a tall vase, a vase set, several different styles of pot sets as well as a collection of cast-iron tea sets.

The Batch #137 is different in that it is not only a candle holder (the only one of its kind in Gaia’s catalog), but one of only two artisan items crafted from concrete.

Yet at the same time, the candle holder is modern enough to provide an elegant-yet-rustic feel to a living room, bedroom or outdoor space. Like many of Gaia's products, the Batch #137 exudes an understated elegance.

Gaia released photos of the candle holder this week. Unlike the brightly hued pots and vases in Gaia’s catalog of goods, the hurricane candle is a muted grey tone.

But like each piece crafted by the company’s expert, the candle holder exudes a sort of humility both in its appearance.

The base of the candle is fashioned from concrete. Gaia’s craftsmen applied the holder’s matte glaze by hand, giving Batch #137 the feeling it was uniquely created with its own features and idiosyncrasies. As Gaia points out, no two pieces are the same.

The glazed cement base is topped with a glass cylinder that gives the candle its “hurricane” moniker. It has the name because the pronounced protective cylinder is able to shield the candle’s flame in the face of some pretty strong winds.

When taken as an entire work, the candle may be the truest expression of Gaia’s desire to offer consumers handmade items with an inherent story.

While the company’s hand painted vases evoke images of humble cottages in the French countryside, the Batch #137 candle hearkens back to the days when the sea was still an unknown entity and sailors made their way across straits and gulfs with caution, wonder and an undying sense of adventure. And, of course, with a hurricane candle in hand as they tiptoed their way across rocking, rolling decks.

Yet at the same time, the candle holder is modern enough to provide an elegant-yet-rustic feel to a living room, bedroom or outdoor space. Like many of Gaia’s products, the Batch #137 exudes an understated elegance.

Gaia has emphasized that their vision for their new line of artisan products is to introduce handmade pieces that can complement the experiences consumers already have at home, whether it be dining with friends, relaxing on the back patio or diving into a deep discussion in the living room.

The company’s handmade products hit the market at just the right time; shoppers’ interest in small-batch goods is at an all-time high.
