City of Newark, NJ to Use GovPilot to Improve Foreclosure Management and Citizen Engagement

The City of Newark, NJ and software company GovPilot have announced a partnership to transform the way Newark citizens interact with municipal government services.

The City of Newark, New Jersey recognizes the importance of providing its constituents with technology that can improve their lives. They have already committed to initiatives like the “Firebolt” Wi-Fi network and its free “Art (of) Code” web development training program for residents.  Developing a user-friendly geographic information system (GIS) for their constituents has been an important goal. The objective is to provide the public with on-demand information via a map-based interface. Rather than build the platform internally or hire a 3rd-party to develop a stand alone system, Newark chose to implement GovPilot’s user-friendly GIS mapping software-as-a-service.

“To partner with Newark, the largest city in New Jersey, was an extremely proud moment for us here at GovPilot,” says Michael Bonner, GovPilot Founder and CEO. “We look at this as the first step in a long partnership with Newark, where GovPilot can also assist in automating all of Newark's paper processes on top of being a GIS provider.“

"Our GIS also provides up to date assessment and foreclosure information in the City of Newark," says Bonner. "The foreclosure data was big part in Newark's decision to partner with GovPilot."

GovPilot’s government GIS software allows cities to publish custom shape files to the map, easily customizing the information that constituents see. Newark residents will soon be able to use the GIS map to locate nearby hospitals, parks, and schools, find out zoning information about their neighborhoods, and keep informed of city planning initiatives through information on urban enterprise zones and wards.

Along with using GovPilot’s GIS software to engage with constituents, Newark will also be using GovPilot’s foreclosure data with their Assessment department. GovPilot’s preloaded foreclosure data will allow Newark to get a better handle on their foreclosures. Along with historic data about home sales, Newark officials will be able to view what type of foreclosure the home is in and all documents pertaining to that foreclosure, along with the lender and attorney contact information.
