AnimalPlex.com Reports: The Largest Lion Airlift

Thirty-three lions have been rescued in a surprise circus raid and are being airlifted to a sanctuary in Africa. These lions were found in poor conditions in circuses in Colombia and Peru, and some were worse off than others. Many of them had claws removed, damaged teeth, and one lion, Ricardo, had even lost an eye due to mistreatment. “The lions have endured hell on earth and now they are heading home to paradise,” said Animal Defenders International (ADI) President, Jan Creamer. ADI will organize the airlift on Friday and has worked with Peruvian and Colombian governments in the past to pass a ban on wild animals in circuses. Having spent most of their lives in cages on the backs of trucks, the lions will now be transported to the Emoya Big Cat Sanctuary in Limpopo, South Africa where they will have more than enough room for the lions to adapt to their new home. The ADI is determined to treat these lions humanely every step of the way during their transportation, opting not to sedate the animals, and not to separate the cages of the already established social groups and families.

ADI Executive Manager, Angie Greenaway admits that while many countries already have laws banning the use of wild animals in circuses, the law is difficult to enforce. To get involved in this discussion about these thirty-three rescued lions, or to read the full article, go to AnimalPlex.com.
