Winston Grey Actively Recruits College Grads, Offers Advice

Last month, a new crop of talented college graduates entered the job market. This is great timing for the managers at Winston Grey, since the interactive marketing firm has launched its new graduate hiring initiative.

Greyson, Winston Grey’s director of operations, shared her enthusiasm for the company’s college hiring initiative. “Today’s grads possess the latest knowledge and insights into the business world from a research and an academic perspective,” she said. “When you combine that with our unique methodology, there is a great potential for innovation.”

According to Greyson, Winston Grey welcomes graduates from any major to apply. “These are sales and marketing positions. They are naturally aligned with marketing and business degrees. However, grads with degrees in communication, psychology, or other fields will find that their talent is also applicable to these roles. We value diverse perspectives.”

"We value positive attitudes, perseverance, strong interpersonal abilities, and a desire to learn."

Winston Grey’s training program is very comprehensive. For this reason, Greyson suggested that management is looking for specific qualities rather than raw skills. “We value positive attitudes, perseverance, strong interpersonal abilities, and a desire to learn,” she noted. “We expect our associates to be team players as well. Collaboration is part of our culture.”

Winston Grey Managers Offer Career Advice to Recent Graduates

During the hiring process, Greyson has observed that grads who are open to opportunities tend to stand out more. “I’m impressed when I meet a graduate who recognizes that his or her knowledge can be used in many ways,” she said. “Too often, job seekers limit themselves to specific roles or single career paths because of their degrees. Knowledge and talent are transferable. You’re more likely to find work if you open yourself to a variety of possibilities.”

One sage piece of advice that Greyson shared is for job seekers to thoroughly research their options both from a skills and a personality perspective. “Your temperament can be an even greater indicator of which career path you should follow,” she noted. “Even if you have the skills and knowledge, there is no guarantee that you’ll succeed in a given role. You have to have the right traits as well.”

Greyson also encouraged grads to look at the big picture when reviewing job prospects. “There are two schools of thought on this,” she explained. “The first is to identify the long range career path that might be associated with a particular role. Secondly, if there is no established career path, will the experience benefit your overall career objectives? You don’t want to be in the in same position for ten years, wondering which opportunities you may have missed.”

“As new graduates, you are about to embark on a tremendous journey,” Greyson concluded. “Whatever path you choose, may it lead you to a fulfilling career.”
