NEW911 is Crowdfunding to Modernize and Upgrade 911 Call Centers
Smart Crowdfunding is slated to carry out strategic marketing initiatives for the 'NEW911' crowdfunding project on YouCaring. This campaign is endeavoring to raise the funds needed to upgrade and re-equip 911 call centers nationwide.
Atlanta, Georgia , June 4, 2015 (Newswire.com) - The non-profit organization “First Responders Electronic Support Center Inc.” (FRESC) has launched a crowdfunding campaign on the YouCaring platform. This campaign has a funding goal of $100,000, which is being raised in order to upgrade and re-equip all 911 call centers nationwide. This campaign is the first step in a huge endeavor. FRESC ultimately needs to raise several million dollars to bring all 911 call centers into the modern era by improving their technology and equipment. They plan to enable call centers to receive texts, use GPS to locate callers, and locate computers by using IP addresses.
Most 911 call centers are still reliant upon old technology. They can easily trace a caller, if the call is made from a landline. However, as more and more people disconnect their landline and opt for mobile phone exclusivity, it is becoming more difficult to pinpoint the exact location of a caller. Cell phones are not as easily traced as landlines and can often lead to lost time and potential tragedies. The FRESC team behind this campaign state, “The Find Me 911 Coalition recently surveyed emergency dispatchers in all 50 states and found that most (82 percent) do not have a great deal of confidence in the location data automatically displayed for wireless calls. More than half (54 percent) said that information is regularly inaccurate.”
FRESC plans on using the funds raised with this campaign to help upgrade 911 call centers nationwide, in the hopes of enabling them to save more lives. The funds will be used for 911 PSAP (Public Safety Answering Point) infrastructure upgrades, 911 work stations and equipment, as well as the hiring and training of new 911 operators. Some states have already begun equipping their call centers with the technology needed to receive text messages, however they have a long way to go in order to make this standard technology in all call centers. FRESC believes that 911 call centers should be fully equipped with modern technology since first responders are often the one resource that makes the difference between a life-saving rescue and a heart-wrenching catastrophe.
