WELT Corp to Unveil World's First Smart Belt That Combines Healthcare and Fashion

The Korean-based tech startup WELT Corp is unveiling in the US the world’s first smart belt that combines fashion, technology and healthcare, allowing men and women to monitor their health, waist size, over-eating and physical activity.

The fashionable leather belt, called WELT, is already a huge hit in Japan and Korea. An observational study by NYU and Cornell researchers found men who wore the belt for 12 weeks decreased their waist size by .776 inches.

WELT is taking the fashion industry to an entirely new level. We are the first smart belt that combines fashion and technology to give consumers updates on their health. We are also in discussions with several famous designers on integrating their brand and design with our technology.

Sean Kang, CEO and Co-Founder WELT

WELT uses Bluetooth to communicate health data from the belt buckle to any smart phone. It sends alerts and notifications when consumers are sitting too long, eating too much or even when they need more exercise.

The CEO and creator of WELT, Sean Kang, MD, says the belt gets smarter the longer consumers wear it, updating their personalized health data on a continuous basis so consumers get a more customized plan for their fitness goals over time.

“WELT is taking the fashion industry to an entirely new level,” said Kang. “We are the first smart belt that combines fashion and technology to give consumers updates on their health. We are also in discussions with several famous designers on integrating their brand and design with our technology.”

The leather belt comes in several different colors - variations of blue, brown, black, red and tan, giving consumers fashionable options for every outfit.

The World’s First Smart Belt - Award Recognition

WELT’s design has already been recognized with awards from fashion professionals, designers and consumers.

In October 2017, WELT won the Good Design Award and took first place in a Korean crowdfunding (WADIZ) competition with the Best maker Prize. Two months later, The Korean Medical Academic Association awarded WELT 1st place for its healthcare solution.

Born2Global, a major Korean government agency under the Ministry of Science, is also throwing its support behind WELT with funding, business advice and advocacy with the international business market.

WELT is already being sold at physical and popular online stores in Korea and Japan, including Amazon Japan and others. Preorders for WELT are already available in the USA with the official retail launch taking place at CES in Las Vegas, January 8th -11th.
