Traditional New Orleans Flavored Rolled Ice Cream Comes to Metairie, LA

Just in time for spring, Metairie is rolling out the red carpet for Sweet Rolls, a new twist on ice cream with a unique blend of South Louisiana flavors. It’s the first Sweet Rolls location on the Southshore.

Think of your favorite ice cream and add a New Orleans flair. Crunchy pecans, mouth-watering pralines and smooth Gentilly cake, oh my! Sweet Rolls is bringing New Orleans to cities all over the south, and Metairie is now on its map. This franchise specializes in offering opportunities to families and local entrepreneurs.

Metairie Sweet Rolls owners Mark J. Baur and Eric Amerland are thrilled to be able to provide an atmosphere that is inviting for both employees and customers.

“Through my 14 years of working with local companies in the construction industry, I have gained a tremendous amount of knowledge on how to work with customers and employees,” Baur said. “I want to apply this knowledge and build a business that makes employees excited to come to work as well as customers who want to come and experience a friendly, family atmosphere.”

Baur was born in New Orleans and has lived there all his life, minus the few years he lived in Hattiesburg, MS attending the University of Southern Mississippi. He is a graduate of Brother Martin High School, he is affiliated with Cub Scout Pack 23 in New Orleans, and he also participates in several locally sponsored and parish sponsored sporting events with his wife and his four sons. In an effort to learn and grow with other local business owners, he also attends monthly Peer to Peer business meetings at the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA, and is a member of the Jefferson Parish Chamber of Commerce.

A New Orleans born graduate of De La Salle High School, Amerland worked his way up through small business. After several years of working for the same small business, he eventually purchased it and became an owner himself. As a member of local chapters of business organizations and a graduate of Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Alumni, Sweet Rolls is his next step as an already successful local entrepreneur.

“Mark and I discussed opening a small business for many years,” Amerland said. “Although this is a lot larger and more involved than anything previously discussed, after meeting the Sweet Rolls Team, we felt as if it was a good fit.”

Sweet Rolls takes a different approach to ice cream. Crew members use French Anglaise and house-made whipped cream to roll each treat to order. Ask for special add-ons or eliminate some ingredients to make more room for others; Sweet Rolls caters to each customer.

Add your favorite ingredients to create a roll, and start with some traditional flavors. The S’mores Roll will remind customers of campfire traditions. The Gentilly Roll is a nod to the delicious strawberry and blueberry topped cake bought for every special occasion inside the Louisiana state line. And with New Orleans traditional main meal follow-up flavors such as Bananas Foster and the Downtown that offer a taste of Louisiana’s sweet almond cake, Sweet Rolls is the perfect stop before heading home from a night out.

Customers can celebrate milestones with The Birthday Cake or The Wedding Cake rolls or satisfy cravings with Brownie Time or The Candy Bar. The options are literally endless. A favorite roll for this location is the Gentilly Roll, and their favorite topping – churros.

Both Baur and Amerland have a large support group that consists of friends and family. They are all very excited about their first official week of being open. Between them, they have five sons and several nieces and nephews who were especially happy to taste test before the Grand Opening on March 19 and now visit Sweet Rolls often.

The Metairie Sweet Rolls is located on 3131 Veterans Memorial Blvd., Suite 104 - right off the corner of Causeway and Vets in the Forum Building. Baur and Amerland are looking forward to making many new friends at their store and serving unique treats to the community.

Locations are popping up all over the south, and the long lines of customers are evidence that its founders are on to something. Be a part of this “roll” out. Visit mysweetrolls.com for information on other menu items and visit the new Metairie location today!
