There's Still Time to Receive a Flu Shot, as Flu Cases Continue to Rise in the Northeast

PhysicianOne Urgent Care offers flu shots at all centers in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York.

Flu season began early in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New York, and has continued strong with widespread activity in January and February. With widespread flu activity expected to continue throughout the coming weeks, what’s the good news? It is not too late to receive a flu shot.

This season, it’s reported that influenza (flu) vaccine is 30% effective against the most active strain of the virus. However, it is still important to get vaccinated if you haven’t already, as the vaccine can help decrease the severity of symptoms and help decrease the risk of complications, which have been severe this flu season.

We are not only seeing cases of the flu, we are seeing complications from the flu. The vaccine may help lessen those complications.

Dr. Jeannie Kenkare, PhysicianOne Urgent Care Co-founder and Chief Medical Officer

“It is not too late to receive the influenza vaccine. It generally takes the body two weeks to develop antibodies after receiving a flu shot, so we encourage anyone who hasn’t yet received the shot to not wait any longer,” said Dr. Jeannie Kenkare, PhysicianOne Urgent Care Co-founder, and Chief Medical Officer. “We are not only seeing cases of the flu, we are seeing complications from the flu. The vaccine may help lessen those complications.”

PhysicianOne Urgent Care, an Affiliate of Yale New Haven Health has hours that extend beyond the normal primary care provider hours and has, on average, significantly shorter wait times than the emergency room, allowing patients to be cared for sooner. Walk into any PhysicianOne Urgent Care, any day of the week, to receive your flu shot.
