The Center for Diagnostic Imaging Discusses Common Imaging Procedures

The Center for Diagnostic Imaging discusses common imaging procedures patients undergo for treatment. These are the most common types of medical imaging procedures:

1. MRI Scan

One of the most common imaging scans is the MRI scan, which is used to analyze the internal organs of your body for dissimilarities. The physician may recommend an MRI scan whenever there are suspicions about the cause of the disease (if it isn't diagnosable by conventional methods).

To prepare for an imaging scan, patients should follow a specific diet that consists mainly of liquids. In addition, patients should advise their imaging technician of any medications they are on in case there are complications.

2. X-Ray Scan

The X-Ray imaging scan is recommended for patients having bone-related issues. X-rays provide clear views of bones and structural issues, which helps doctors pinpoint the root cause of pain or discomfort in the joints or bones.

3. 3D Mammogram

A 3D Mammogram is a scan recommended to women to analyze any unusual growth in their breast, which could be a sign of a tumor. Mammograms become especially important for women as they age, as breast cancer development becomes more likely. There are two types of mammograms. The first is regular mammogram screenings (which is performed when there is no suspicion of any breast lump or problem). The second kind is a diagnostic mammogram. This is when either the patient or the physician has a concern about the breast. More images will be taken during a diagnostic mammogram.
