Tampa Events Group Inspired by March Madness

March Madness fever is in the air across the nation and the team at Tampa Events Group has caught it. Inspired by the collegiate basketball competition, the interactive marketing firm has created their own office tournament.

“March Madness brings out the college hoops fan in almost everyone,” said Toy, Tampa Events Group’s president. “We decided it would be fun to jumpstart our own competitive spirits by creating an office version of the tourney in which our team members could participate.”

Toy explained that associates would be matched against each other in brackets, similar to the NCAA’s system, and given specific sales or office goals to meet. “Each associate faces off against one another by trying to meet and exceed their goals. Whomever wins advances to the next bracket,” said Toy. “We’ll have our own version of the Final Four as well as a championship round.”

"You have to keep score and show each associate's or team's progress so everyone can follow along,"

“We’ve developed this contest so that everyone can participate and enjoy the moment,” said Toy. “There will be prizes along the way, culminating in a nice reward for the champion. Everyone is really engaged in this competition. It’s added a spark to the office atmosphere.”

Tampa Events Group Leader Discusses Benefits of In-Office Competition

According to Toy, the management at Tampa Events Group often hosts contests in order to motivate team members to deliver exceptional results. “We’d like to think this is a fun place to work, and what better way to combine hard work with play than to introduce some friendly competition,” he said. “March Madness is an easy theme on which to base a contest. We strive to tie our events into things that are current topics of interest.”

As Toy elaborated, the key to a successful contest is a concrete goal that can be tracked and measured. “You have to keep score and show each associate’s or team’s progress so everyone can follow along,” he cited. “Goal setting is very important and contests such as this encourage teams to set their sights on outcomes and plan their strategies. For every bracket, the goals become incrementally more challenging to achieve. While we keep the contest friendly and supportive, we do want to challenge our associates to constantly reach for that next level of success.”

“Just like the March Madness teams, our associates recognize that their skills and abilities are being tested and that, to get to the next bracket, they have to put forth some additional effort,” Toy concluded. “We want them to enjoy this experience, but more importantly, we want them to apply that winning spirit in all that they do going forward.”
