Tamarac Village Groundbreaking: The Next Step in Tamarac's Transformation

Tamarac Village

An excavator will tear down the remains of an old bank building, signaling the start of the City of Tamarac’s new downtown, Tamarac Village, at a groundbreaking ceremony at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 20.

Tamarac Village will serve as an economic driver for the City of Tamarac and provide a hub within the community for dining, shopping and events. It will be located on 23 acres on the north side of Commercial Boulevard between Pine Island Road and NW 94th Avenue – one of the last remaining parcels of primarily vacant land in Tamarac.

Tamarac Village is the next step in the City's transformation from a largely retirement community to a demographically diverse, vibrant place to build a business, build a family and build a life, It's the culmination of years of planning by the City - from amassing the property when the market was low, to finding the right developer to make the vision of a downtown for Tamarac a reality.

Harry Dressler, Mayor of Tamarac

The development includes a residential component with 401 rental apartments in 13 buildings and a clubhouse, as well as 44,000 square feet of Class A commercial space with indoor and outdoor seating and a public park. It’s estimated that Tamarac Village will have a $100 million impact on the City, creating jobs and contributing an additional $729,000 in annual tax revenue.

JKM Developers is developing the project. Construction will start with the residential component, and the entire project is expected to be completed in phases over three years.

“Tamarac Village is the next step in the City’s transformation from a largely retirement community to a demographically diverse, vibrant place to build a business, build a family and build a life,” said Tamarac Mayor Harry Dressler. “It’s the culmination of years of planning by the City – from amassing the property when the market was low, to finding the right developer to make the vision of a downtown for Tamarac a reality.”

The ceremony celebrating the new development will also feature Challenger Elementary School’s choir singing “A Candle for Peace.”

The event is open to the public, and members of the media are encouraged to attend.
