Socially Conscious Investing on Innovation and Nonprofit Survival in the Digital Age

Nonprofits are experiencing dramatic changes in fund raising due to the socio-economic paradigm shift in communications. This is a long term impact that if not addressed through innovative, sustainable practices will destroy nonprofit organizations.

Mr. David Neff and Mr. Randal Moss, authors of The Future of Nonprofits: Innovate and Thrive in the Digital Age, http://thefutureofnonprofits.conm, join Robin Eschler on the new online radio show Socially Conscious Investing, http://bit.ly/SociallyConsciousInvesting, on May 18 to discuss the paradigm shift and need for innovation in the nonprofit sector across the United States.

"To be supremely effective, organizations must actually change and evolve before society and their constituencies change," the book emphasizes. Mr. Neff and Moss echo this in their interview. "Technology and social media have opened a range of scenarios for the future. Innovation is the key to unlocking the greatest potential for each scenario," they emphasize.

The Future of Nonprofits: Innovate and Thrive in the Digital Age explains that part of the process of change is the leverage of new ideas and the finding of new uses for old ideas resulting in authentic, durable economic gains. Like Tom's Shoes, Google and other for-profit socially aware companies, innovative changes can impact the "triple bottom line."

During the interview, David and Randy discuss the three pillars for success, Awareness, Staffing and Structure, that are key to developing innovation and addressing the socio-economic paradigm shift that has occurred for business and specifically for nonprofits. Examples are given from various sizes and causes of nonprofits as well as a comparison to for-profit organizations that are socially responsible.

"The book, although written for nonprofits, is applicable to for-profit businesses," Ms. Eschler comments to David and Randy. "The approach you take toward the process for blending old ways with new technologies thereby improving Return on Investment is useful for all businesses."

David J. Neff and Randal Moss worked together at the American Cancer Society's Center for Innovation. As partners, they have written a book that shares concepts and processes that are imperative for the continued success of nonprofits regardless of their size. "Each page of the book seems to have a golden tidbit that, when carefully considered and applied, can significantly benefit any kind of business," Robin shares.

Two book signings are being held in Mason, Ohio near Cincinnati, at Barnes & Noble at 6 p.m. and in Austin Texas at Book People at 7 p.m. on May 19 and May 26 respectively. Randy will be in Mason and David in Austin to personally sign their book.
